CLINICAL MANAGEMENT SYSTEMS

a. Radiology

The Radiology system contributes to efficient department operation with online examination order processing from requisition through results reporting. Examination schedules allow staff to plan resource requirements ensuring that facilities and staff are used efficiently. Users can produce flash cards, technologist worksheets, and film / jacket labels that provides the necessary control for film tracking.  For instance, mammography tracking functions include management of required follow-up letters to both the physician and the patient.  In addition, a patient profile contains pertinent information about each examination, its status, and the location of each film.  The reporting of results is streamlined with integrated word processing (Microsoft Word ®) to reduce transcription time.

b. Laboratory

The Laboratory system provides real-time processing and results reporting on a stand-alone basis.  It can also be fully integrated with a hospital information system.  Up-to-the-minute patient information and control over specimens improve the laboratory’s efficiency, quality and overall patient care.  The system is designed to improve each phase of the laboratory workflow – from requisition and specimen bar-code controlled processing to results reporting with automated faxing. Users can integrate both the Laboratory and the health-care information system to automatically capture demographic information and report results instantaneously.  If desired, a dual numbering system and separate billing routine allow the department to also function as a reference laboratory.

c. Pharmacy

The Pharmacy system delivers an integrated pharmaceutical care system managing all patient encounters—in-patient, out-patient, long-term, and psychiatric.  Patient transfers between different levels of care are tracked producing a clear discharge/re-admit audit trail while retaining patient demographics and drug profiles.   The system processes all patient records using one common formulary and multiple drug costs and formulas.  Support is provided for Drug Therapy monitoring, patient drug education, timely and accurate dosing, drug utilization review, drug-to-drug/drug–to-food, and allergy intervention.

d. Dietary

The Dietary system’s four modules:  Menu Processing, Recipe and Menu Costing, Nutrient Analysis, and Production Control; increase the effectiveness of patient nutritional support and improve department productivity.  Patient specific diet information and a master menu database automate menu preparation and support recipe and menu costing.  Nutrient analysis of recipes, meals, and patient intake assists the dietician in providing optimal nutritional care for each patient.  The system automates the flow of information required to plan and control the daily operation of production areas, thus improving quality and staff productivity.

e. Operating Room Management

The Operating Room Management system, an adjunct to the Scheduling system, provides operating room scheduling for patient and staff, case data management, log reporting, surgeon preference lists, and extensive statistical reporting capabilities.  A summary of critical patient data may be gathered for each case.  The case records -- consisting of procedure, anesthesia, and recovery data -- are automatically created when the case record is updated.

Patient Clinical Management Systems

a. Charting

The Charting system provides an integrated path that allows its users to electronically capture clinical information/data for in-patients, out-patients, long-term care, home-health, and other settings.    Charting consists of an unlimited number of user-definable screens.  Users have a variety of options to efficiently manage patients’ charts while ensuring necessary follow-up is top-of-mind for the health-care provider.  In addition, screens may be customized to include required notation areas, numeric, table-driven, and "macro" invoked entries for user response.  Reminders/ticklers also may be attached to each note as a reminder to the healthcare provider of necessary follow-up, review, and action items.  Required electronic signatures may be attached and transcription may be integrated.  Predefined notes are supplied for vitals, nursing care, physician, discharge summaries, etc.  Users may modify the screens/output to match current notation practices.  A fully progressive audit trail monitors all changes performed to the chart.

An additional feature of great importance to the management of patients’ clinical data is appropriate tracking of nursing assignment.  The charting system also offers this advantage.  Reminder reports are available for each health-care provider thus assisting in workflow and ensuring completion of charting tasks.  Integration with Order Entry facilitates a paperless environment for Nursing.

b. Order Entry/Results Reporting

The Order Entry/Results Reporting system provides online communication of physician orders, results, and patient information between nursing and ancillary departments.  At the user's discretion, patient charges may be generated when an order is entered, confirmed, or results issued.  Individual orders, order sets, and panels may be entered, revised or canceled from nursing floors or other authorized locations.

Based upon user priorities, orders are automatically sent to appropriate departments where specific messages or requisitions are printed to initiate service.  A tracking system ensures orders are tracked from the time they originate through confirmation and results reporting.  An additional feature allows department-to-department ordering (location orders), and provides immediate internal communications.   As a result, the departments increase their efficiencies through the elimination of department-to-department telephone communications.

The Results Reporting module allows users to share Laboratory and Radiology results and Pharmacy profiles with appropriate receiving locations.  Standard phrases for normal and abnormal summaries and a powerful text-handling function provide reporting flexibility.

c. Care Protocols, Critical Paths & Care Plans

The Care Protocols function enables simplified yet comprehensive collaboration between physicians and nursing staff. When combined with our Critical Paths and Care Plans functions, this leads to greater efficiency while maintaining high standards of patient care.

d. Physician Access

The Physician Access system establishes a link between the physician’s office and the hospital’s information system.  The system allows the physician to perform a variety of functions ranging from preadmission of his/her patients to order entry and results inquiry.  Through use of the scheduling function, hospital resources are allocated more efficiently, thus more effectively meeting the physician’s individual needs.  The system provides up-to-the minute information on the status and/or results of all orders for each patient.
